Mental Health First Aid Standard Youth & Older Persons Workshops
Standard Mental Health First Aid
The 2-day standard Mental Health First Aid workshop is for adults assisting other adults.
Participants will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
At the conclusion of the workshop participants can complete an online assessment and become an accredited Mental Health First Aider.
Mental health issues covered include:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Psychosis
- Substance misuse
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury (deliberate self-harm)
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Acute effects from alcohol or drug misuse
- Aggressive behaviours
Youth Mental Health First Aid
The 2-day Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults who work, live or care for adolescents, such as school staff, parents, sports coaches, community group leaders and youth workers.
Participants will learn how to assist an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
At the conclusion of the workshop participants can complete an online assessment and become an accredited Mental Health First Aider.

- Depression and Anxiety
- Psychosis
- Substance use
- Eating Disorders
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury (deliberate self-harm)
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe effects of drug and alcohol abuse
- Severe psychotic states
- Aggressive behaviours
Older Person Mental Health First Aid
The 2-day Older Person Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult, particularly those who work with, live with or care for older people, including families and carers.
Participants will learn how to assist a person aged 65+ who may be experiencing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
At the conclusion of the workshop participants can complete an online assessment and become an accredited Mental Health First Aider.

- Confusion and Dementia
- Psychosis
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Panic attacks
- Delirium
- Unsafe and challenging behaviours due to confusion
